About En Bloc Capsulectomy
En Bloc Capsulectomy surgery will remove the entire capsule that surrounds an implant. The operation takes between 60-90 minutes and can be completed within a day, with patients able to return to work and resume normal activities within 4-5 days.
En Bloc surgery is usually required when the body reacts to an implant and forms a thin film around it. This film can become thick and uncomfortable, and can contract which changes the shape of the implant.
Other reasons for opting for En Bloc implant removal is when a patient has concerns over Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA–ALCL), or ‘Breast Implant Illness’. To date, there has been no link determined between breast implants and the apparent autoimmune diseases related to the condition known as ‘Breast Implant Illness’. However Doctor Fazel recognises the distress such a condition can cause.
