Mummy Makeover London

A mummy makeover is a combination of procedures designed to restore the breasts, midsection, and other areas of the body changed by pregnancy and childbirth. Typically, it involves breast augmentation with implants, a tummy tuck, and liposuction to sculpt unwanted pockets of fat. Mummy makeovers are customizable, so you can choose between one or more of these procedures, allowing you to regain your pre-pregnancy body contours and youthfulness.

About the Mummy Makeover

Even though motherhood can be an extremely rewarding experience, there are many sacrifices that come with it. Just one aspect of becoming a new mum is adapting to a new body that has been affected by stretch marks, the birthing process, and drastic hormonal changes. For many women, it can be a rather difficult time that profoundly affects their sense of self-confidence. As a new mum, you should be able to embrace your body and its life-giving abilities.

More and more, women are seeking long-term solutions that help them feel like their most attractive selves, allowing them to feel comfortable and free wearing the fashion they like. Dr. Fazel can address the aesthetic concerns of new mums with these procedures:

VASER Liposuction

If you have stubborn fat deposits that won’t shrink with a healthy diet or exercise plan, VASER liposuction can permanently remove them in one of the least invasive methods possible. For a liposuction procedure, Dr Fazel will apply a local anaesthetic before making an incision that is only a few millimetres long into the treatment area. Next, he will administer a solution called tumescent fluid that will provide more numbing to the area, prepare the fat for removal, and limit blood loss through vasoconstriction. Dr Fazel will then use the same incision to insert the VASER (vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance) device, a thin, precise instrument that emits ultrasound energy to liquefy the fat. By applying VASER before fat removal, patients can expect a more comfortable, faster recovery with less bruising. (1) Finally, he will use a standard cannula to suction the fat away, creating new, slimmer contours.

He will provide you with further instructions regarding the use of a compression garment for swelling reduction and other recovery steps. Most patients can return to work within 1 week.  Although VASER is extraordinarily effective at sculpting, it may not always be suitable for the midsection of post-pregnancy women. This is due to the fact that VASER liposuction can’t correct moderate or severely lax skin, it can only remove fat. Dr. Fazel will evaluate your skin rigidity prior to recommending VASER. This liposuction technique can improve the appearance of the following:

  • Upper Arms
  • Thighs
  • Calves and Ankles
  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks and Hips
  • Neck and Chin

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a more comprehensive procedure that can resolve what liposuction cannot. A baby can stretch out the skin past the point of being able to recoil nicely, leaving behind sagging skin and stretch marks. And, a condition called diastasis recti can separate the abdominal muscles from each other and weaken core strength as a whole. For this procedure, Dr Fazel will make one horizontal incision immediately above the pubic area that will travel from hip to hip. The resulting scar will be low enough to be hidden by a bathing suit or underwear.

Depending on the extent of the procedure, he may make a subtle incision surrounding the navel as well. From here, he will excise extra fat, place permanent sutures into the abdominal muscles, redrape the skin and remove excess. All of the surgical components of the tummy tuck contribute to a midsection that is not only flat and attractive but is stronger and more functional as well. A stronger core can even relieve symptoms of incontinence, a common problem among women who have given birth. (2) In some cases, Dr Fazel can modify the procedure by using a shorter incision to only remove fat and skin- a variation called the mini tummy tuck.

Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer

Breast fat transfer is a popular, natural method of enhancing the breasts using your own fat deposits. For this type of breast augmentation, Dr Fazel will use VASER to collect fat from your abdomen, flanks, or thighs, further slimming down areas subjected to more fat buildup after pregnancy weight gain. Then, he will purify the sample, prepare it into syringes, and re-inject it into areas of hollowness where the breasts lack volume. The procedure will add natural-looking and feeling volume, but it won’t provide a lifting effect, so patients have the option to pair it with a breast lift for more aesthetically pleasing results. Many women are attracted to this breast enhancement since it won’t affect the milk ducts necessary for breastfeeding.

Breast Lift

A breast lift won’t restore lost breast volume that you may have lost from breastfeeding, but the procedure can restore youthful perkiness and reduce the size of the areolas (if needed) through the removal of sagging skin. Depending on the size of your breasts and the laxity present, he will choose from 1 of 3 incisions

  • A “doughnut” (periareolar) incision around each areola. Dr. Fazel specialises in this technique.
  • “Lollipop” incisions surround the areolas and include a connected vertical incision to the bottom of the breast.
  • “Anchor” incisions that are lollipops but with an added horizontal incision along the bottom of the breast.

The procedure may make the breasts appear smaller than before, but it is only due to the repositioning of the breast mounds, not fat removal. If your breasts sag downward due to their size, a breast reduction may be a more appropriate course of action. It is a much more comprehensive procedure that involves the removal of fat, fibrous tissue, and glandular tissue to elevate them and make them significantly smaller.

Breast Implants with Lift

Combining a breast lift with implants will ensure that your implants don’t weigh down the delicate tissues of the breast. Breast implants come in many shapes, sizes, materials, and forms that are designed to suit many body types. After childbirth and breastfeeding, your breasts can look and feel weighed down and deflated. During your consultation with Dr Fazel, he will go over your options for implants that include:

  • Textured and smooth implants
  • Implants of various projections and sizes
  • Silicone and saline variations
  • Teardrop and round shapes

Once you have made your informed decision, guided by the expertise of Dr Fazel, he will outline the pros and cons of subpectoral placement (under the pectoralis muscles) and prepectoral placement (over the pectoralis muscles).

For the procedure itself, he will choose between 3 different incisions to insert the implants:

  • A periareolar incision around each areola
  • An inframammary incision under each breast
  • A transaxillary incision at the junction of each armpit and breast

Believe it or not, most women can breastfeed without complications after getting implants. (3) However, if you want to be more cautious, a fat transfer may be a more viable option.
