How long will my breast implant last?

They’re not just for Christmas, but they may be for life. That’s the good news about today’s breast implants, but there is a wide range of factors which could mean an implant replacement will be preferable, or necessary, at some point down the line.

While implant manufacturers are confident that modern implants are perfectly capable of lasting the distance, there is always a slight risk that a replacement could be needed at some point. Several durability tests of saline implants have concluded that there’s a risk of rupture and/or deflation of 1% per year. Consequently, professional practitioners will recommend that you get them checked out – but not necessarily replaced – ten to fifteen years after the initial procedure.

While the breast implants don’t change, your body will…

There are no maintenance or care regimes you have to stick to after an implant procedure – it just sits there, after all. However, the rest of your body isn’t made of silicone, and your breasts may change over time. Changes in body weight – either up or down – can also change the proportion of your breasts, and you may want a replacement to suit your new look.

…and your mindset might

What works for your look today might not be desirable tomorrow. Some women may want a fuller figure as they age, others may prefer to reduce their body shape, and those with larger implants may want to reduce the load on their frame.

Now for the good news

If you ever think about changing – or removing – your implants, we’re happy to report that a repeat procedure is more manageable, for you and us. The procedure will be exactly the same, but clients report less stress (as they already know what to expect). Furthermore, the incisions are made in the exact same place, so the client experiences less discomfort, the procedure takes much less time, the recovery time is shorter and the results are almost instant.
