Breast Lift without Augmentation
A breast lift (mastopexy) is performed to raise and reshape breasts that have sagged as a result of aging, pregnancy, weight loss, gravity or other factors. By trimming excess skin and tightening supporting tissue, Maisam Fazel can help his patients achieve an uplifted, youthful breast contour. After surgery, the breasts are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch. The nipple and areola can also be repositioned or resized during this procedure to further enhance the appearance of the breast.
It is also important for women considering this procedure to be in good overall health, maintain a stable weight and have realistic expectations for surgery. It is recommended that women still planning to have children postpone this procedure, as pregnancy and nursing can counteract the effects of a breast lift.
This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to three hours, depending on the size and shape of the breasts, as well as the degree of sagging and amount of excess skin. Mr Fazel employs a number of different techniques to achieve the breast lift with varying scars:
Periareoalar incision (scars circling the dark area around the nipple): this is a good technique for a small breast lift.
Vertical incision (lollipop scar): like the periareolar technique but with an additional vertical scar running down from the areola; this is a good technique for moderate breast lifts.
Wise pattern incision (anchor scar): this is required in large breast lifts and is like the vertical scar but also includes a scar in the crease of the breast (which will remain hidden by the overlying breasts).
Breast Lift with Augmentation
A mastopexy, or breast lift, with breast augmentation is a combination procedure that lifts sagging breasts while also increasing the cup size (volume) of the breast. Aside from improving the size and overall appearance of the breasts, a mastopexy with implants benefits patients by keeping breasts firm and pert for many years. Gravity does not have the same effect on implants as it has on natural breast tissue, so implants will retain their height and shape more easily.
